How to Install a Dog Fence Transmitter

Every brand of dog fence includes a proprietary transmitter with unique installation instructions. While the instructions below provide general guidance on installing a dog fence transmitter, you should see the instructions included with your dog fence for specific directions.

TOOLS:

  • Screws with matching anchors
  • Ruler
  • Level
  • Phillips head screwdriver or power drill

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Decide where you want to install the transmitter. Your dog fence transmitter requires a power source, so choose an installation area very close to a power outlet. Also, your transmitter requires protection from water, so you should either install it indoors (your garage may be a good location) or in a waterproof box.

  2. Mount the transmitter to the wall. Measure the distance between the screw holes on the back of your transmitter. Now, use the level and a ruler to mark where your screws will go. If you do not screw the transmitter directly into a wall stud, install screw anchors before you attach the transmitter to your wall.

  3. Engage the lightning protection. Some dog fences come with integrated lightning protection, while others require a separate lightning protection unit. If your dog fence does not include some form of lightning protection, you should purchase a separate unit to protect both the transmitter and your home's electrical system.
